Home Renovation: Progress Update

Justin and I have been knee-deep in our home renovation for three weeks and we're making a ton of progress! This is my first home renovation, and it's ended up being so much more work that I expected. Justin tried to warn me (since home builds and renovations are part of his job), but I just didn't listen. Hee hee.

So since we're three weeks into the renovation, I figured it's about darn time to share a progress update! As a refresher, here's our overall plan, the master bedroom mood board and the master bathroom mood board.

Here's what we've accomplished:

I moved my closet into the living room. Covered our furniture. And overall made our house as messy as possible.

We've carefully taken up our carpet so we can re-use it after the remodel - it's only 1 year old! Oh, and we tore down some walls.

Demo Profiles

We took out the old (crappy) insulation and kicked down the ceiling.

Justin framed out our new walls.

We took down the dining room wall so the plumbers could get to their pipes.

We took up the floors so the HVAC guy could get to his stuff.

We hired a plumber and electrician to do their thing. And built the surround for our soaking tub.

And now we finally have our very own Dexter room. Renovation complete. Perfect for Halloween, right?

Ha. So that's about it! This week and weekend we'll be installing the new insulation and starting to put up walls. So good because it's sooo cold in the house without that insulation! Brrr...

  4. Waiting to see how it turns out! I love the DIY renovations. It is really nice to see. We had our renovations last month. Expect for some small interior design changes, the rest of the works were done by homerenovation contractors .

  7. We've added insulation to various rooms as we remodel too. We did spray foam in our entire upstairs after adding additional depth to our walls. It makes the entire upstairs liveable now, which is good considering its our master! We added two kinds in my daughter's room. I can't wait to add more as we remodel other rooms.

  10. That's a renovation if I ever saw one! Good idea on letting the professionals do their thing on those power lines and HVAC too; it's not a good idea to gamble on those. Update us further on your next project!

  11. Wow. Good job! Looks like the renovation of your home is going quite well. It is tough doing it by yourself, but it definitely saves you a lot of money. I love how you guys are doing with your renovation as it seems like you’ve done a complete overhaul. Well, I’m looking forward to see the final results! 

  12. So far, so good. At least you've got your hands directly in the canvas, that is your home. Just keep on peeling away at the redundant pieces and and upgrade features and areas of the infrastructure and the space. It takes more than a pair of hands, but it could definitely be done. Looking forward to the results, which will more than likely be an inspiration.
